IPTV on Google TV & Android TV: The 2026 Setup Guide
Big screen, real remote, Chromecast built in — Google TV and Android TV are still the easiest way to put IPTV in the living room without a dedicated box. The catch is that the Play Store hides most IPTV players from the TV interface, and the leanback UI behaves differently from your phone. This guide shows you exactly how to install, configure and use StreamVision on every Google-powered TV device released since 2020.
Devices covered
Chromecast with Google TV
4K and HD models, the most popular Android TV stick.
Nvidia Shield TV / Pro
The performance king for 4K HDR IPTV.
Sony Bravia, TCL, Hisense
TVs running Google TV natively.
Xiaomi Mi Box / TV Stick
Budget Android TV options, fully supported.
Onn 4K Pro, Walmart Onn
Cheap Google TV streamers, fully compatible.
Installing StreamVision on Google TV
Sideloading on older Android TV (no Play Store listing)
Some older Android TV firmwares hide IPTV apps. Here's the safe way to sideload:
- On the TV, install Downloader by AFTVnews (free, in the Play Store).
- In TV Settings → System → Developer options, enable Apps from unknown sources for Downloader.
- In Downloader, type the official APK URL provided on our setup page.
- Install the APK, then launch via the apps drawer.
Never sideload an IPTV app from a torrent or a Telegram channel. Real APKs come from the publisher's own domain only.
Remote-friendly UI: what to know
StreamVision detects when it runs on Android TV and switches to a leanback layout: focus rings, D-pad navigation, no on-screen keyboards in the wrong places. Useful shortcuts:
- Up/Down on a channel → previous/next channel.
- Long press OK → channel info + EPG drawer.
- Back twice from a stream → exit to category, never to home (avoids accidental quit).
- Voice search → works inside the app for live channels and VOD titles.
Chromecast built-in: stream from your phone
Already watching on the StreamVision phone app? Tap the Cast icon in the player and pick your TV. The TV takes over the stream directly from the IPTV server — your phone is no longer needed and battery is preserved. This works with M3U and Xtream sources alike, and the EPG follows the cast session.
4K, HEVC and HDR: getting the best picture
- Most modern IPTV streams are HEVC (H.265). All Google TV devices since 2019 decode it in hardware.
- For 4K HDR channels, prefer Nvidia Shield Pro or a TV with Dolby Vision tunneling.
- If your stream stutters at 4K, drop to the SD or HD variant in the channel options — IPTV servers often expose multiple bitrates.
- Force HDMI to match content frame rate in TV settings to avoid 24p judder on movies.
Common Google TV / Android TV issues
- App keeps quitting on stream change. Disable any "low-RAM mode" in TV settings; allocate 1 GB+ to background apps.
- EPG times are wrong. Set the TV system time zone manually — many sticks default to GMT.
- Cleartext HTTP blocked. StreamVision ships a network security config that allows IPTV cleartext, but custom ROMs may override it. Use HTTPS sources when possible.
- Cast button missing. Make sure phone and TV are on the same Wi-Fi SSID and 5 GHz band; mDNS does not cross VLANs.
A word about Fire TV and Apple TV
Fire TV runs a forked Android — StreamVision installs the same way through Downloader. Apple TV is a different story: it does not run Android apps, but the iOS version of StreamVision supports AirPlay 2 to stream from iPhone or iPad to Apple TV with no quality loss.
